Summer Literacy Events

 As the semester winds down, we are gearing up for some great summer literacy experiences!  The first event will be on June 6th, 2016 when we host Kristen Hawley Turner and Troy Hicks, co-authors of the professional development text entitled, Connected Reading: Teaching Adolescent Readers in a Digital World.  The authors will spend the day with educators sharing best practices with digital literacies.  You will leave with an arsenal of digital practices and tools to aid in differentiated literacy instruction (in addition to free lunch and a free book!), plus Drs.

Rita Williams-Garcia Book Talk and Signing

Don't forget to make plans to attend our Meet the YA Author series, as the CCYAL welcomes Rita Williams-Garcia. The CCYAL and the Knox County Public Library are pleased to present an "Evening with Rita Williams-Garcia." Author of several award-winning novels, Rita Williams-Garcia continues to break new ground in young people's literature. Her works include Like Sisters on the Homefront, Jumped, Blue Tights, and the popular trilogy that includes One Crazy Summer, P.S. Be Eleven, and Gone Crazy in Alabama, which just won the 2016 Coretta Scott King Award. Williams-Garcia recently served on the National Book Award Committee for Young People's Literature and is on faculty at Vermont College MFA Writing for Children and Young People.
