School of Art Lecture on Creating Books for Children

UT's School of Art will host its first colloquial this Friday, September 7 by John McRae and Jona Shehu in room 111 from 12:15-1:15.  The topic is Writing and illustrating for children, ages 3-5 and will offer explorations into the approach to story and illustration development; tapping into the realm of a child’s thought process with stories intended to touch and stretch the imagination.

Newbery Author Gary Schmidt to Lecture October 9th

Gary SchmidtCCYAL is very pleased to announce that we will be hosting two-time Newbery Honor-Winning author Gary D. Schmidt on October 9th at 7pm in Hodges Auditorium. Gary's Lizzie Bright and the Buckminster Boy was awarded both the Newbery Honor and the Michael Printz Honor in 2005. The Wednesday Warsrecieved the Newbery Honor in 2008. Critics claim that Okay for Now is his best book yet, and still to come is Gary's newest title, What Came from the Stars, to be released on September 4th. When he isn't writing award winning novels, Gary teaches English at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI.
